After Miley Cyrus' obvious snub of her father Billy Ray Cyrus during her first Grammy win, her mom Tish is detailing what she felt when she broke up with Billy Ray.
Before divorcing Billy Ray Cyrus, Miley Cyrus' mother Tish Cyrus disclosed that she had experienced a "complete psychological breakdown."
On the "Call Her Daddy" podcast on Tuesday, Tish, 56, revealed that she had to make the tough choice to split from Billy Ray, 62, in 2020, the same year her mother passed away.
"It was so crazy because, honestly, my two biggest fears in life were always being alone and my mom passing away," she said. "I was like, 'I just don't know if I'll survive when my mom dies.' Like, honestly. And I had, like, one month of a, honestly, complete psychological breakdown. It was the worst thing - like, honestly. It was not good."
Tish remembered pleading with famous psychiatrist Daniel Amen to "please put me in a mental hospital," to which he replied, "I do not think that's the best thing for either of us," according to her account.
"I could not eat. I could not sleep. I could not stop crying. I literally weighed, like, 130 [pounds]," she told host Alex Cooper.
"I don't have my mom, and then I don't have my husband that's been my husband for 30 years. Like, holy crap, I'm scared." Tish clarified that Miley, 31, lives in California, and that Billy Ray traveled to Tennessee during the COVID-19 outbreak while she remained in California.
She explained, calling her newfound alone "hugely transformative," saying, "[Our marriage] had not been in a good place for a long time, and I think I did stay so long out of fear - literal fear - of being alone."
Though the 1993-married pair had experienced brief splits in 2010 and 2013, Tish knew that this time would be different. "[I was just] looking at myself and going, 'What in the heck are you doing?'" she remembered. "And so I literally just had made that firm decision and was like, 'I'm moving on with my life.' And, you know what, girl? It worked out for the best."
Tish stated that although she "never wanted to get a divorce," their marriage "fell apart" after she made the decision to cease altering who she was in order to appease her husband. Tish and Billy Ray both moved on fast after Tish waited two years to file for divorce in April 2022.
That August, the singer of "Achy Breaky Heart" became engaged to Joanna "Firerose" Hodges, a fellow artist. The couple got married in October of 2023. Meanwhile, Tish married Dominic Purcell, star of "Prison Break," last August.
