If fans were happy to see Celine Dion at the Grammy Awards, then they would be happier to note that it could have turned bad, but the star was lucky.

Celine Dion Brave at the Grammys 2024

Despite suffering from a developing neurological condition called Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), which exacerbates numerous physical limits and causes anxiety, phobias, and emotional pain, especially in front of large crowds, Celine Dion showed tremendous courage by attending the Grammy Awards.

There was a great risk of rigidity and collapse, experts say.

Severe muscle spasms or freezes are more common in those with the condition, especially in the early stages of walking. This makes them more likely to trip and fall.

Can you imagine Celine's feelings as she took the stage in front of thousands of spectators and millions more people worldwide?

Things Could Have Gone South for Celine Dion

She would have known that these spasms are frequently brought on by touch, noise, and mental anxiety. Most of those affected are frightened to leave their houses at all because street noises, including the sound of a car horn or people shouting, can provoke spasms and falls.

Not only is there a fear of falling, but many people do fall frequently due to poor balance and inability to catch themselves reflexively.

Often, this leads to serious injuries that result in more pain, suffering, and disability.

Good thing, none of these risks came true.

At the Grammys, Celine Dion made people very emotional. She said, "I love you right back. When I say I am happy to be here, I really mean it from my heart. Those who have been blessed enough to be here at the Grammy Awards must not take for granted the tremendous love and joy that music brings to our lives and people all around the world."

Owing to its exceptional rarity, SPS is often misdiagnosed in the outset as other degenerative neurological conditions such as Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis, and fibromyalgia.

Some patients are often told they have agoraphobia, anxiety, or psychosomatic illness in its early phases before a definitive diagnosis is made.

Usually, a blood test is used for this, which looks for high amounts of an immunological protein called glutamic acid decarboxylase (GAD) antibodies.

Although the precise cause of SPD is still unknown, researchers have concluded that it is an autoimmune disorder.

This suggests that the immune system of the body is targeting the brain, spinal cord, and nerves related to movement and coordination.

It specifically damages the neural connections that allow muscles to release their contractions and relax, resulting in the characteristic stiffness or rigidity.
