Word has it that Billy Bob Thornton's country-rock group, The Boxmasters, recently signed a new deal with Nashville's 101 Ranch Records. The group is reportedly gearing up to release a double album next year, according to Rolling Stone.

Titled Somewhere Down the Road, the band's dual LP will be made up of "one disc of British Invasion-influenced jangle pop, and a second disc of moody Americana," as the publication notes.

Following the news, Thornton spoke with RS Country, telling them, "Double albums weren't a rarity when I was growing up. It was just something that people did. We have so much music, we've recorded 200 to 300 songs over the past couple of years. When you have a momentum going, you don't want them to just sit there forever and turn them out years later. You want to get them out there while there's something crackling about them."

The Boxmasters are made up of J.D. Andrew, Brad Davis, Teddy Andreadis and, of course, Thornton.

Though he's made a name for himself as an actor, starring in Sling Blade (for which he won an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay) Monster's Ball, Bad Santa, and more, Thornton's first love has always been music, telling RS, "I was playing in bands since the time I was a kid."

Of course, the actor is well aware of the fact that he is the "face" of The Boxmasters, but notes that he wants people to see the band as just that ... a band. Because of that, he tries to go by Bud, and not the name we've all come to know.

"It's not like people aren't going to know, but it's my way of saying, 'Just look at me as a member of this band.' That's really all I am."
