Ariana Grande amazes on the trailer of "Wicked" during the Super Bowl.

The era of Glinda and Elphaba in theater is almost here. On February 11, 2024, the much-awaited first trailer for the smash Broadway musical Wicked: Part One made its debut during the Super Bowl.

The video, which begins fairly dramatically, provided us a peek of Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo in their respective roles as Glinda and Elphaba in the musical film. The video includes a song from the musical "Defying Gravity," which is one of the most well-known.

The cast also includes Jeff Goldblum as Oz, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero, and Ariana and Cynthia. In July 2023, a few days before filming began, the SAG-AFTRA strike began.

Production resumed in January 2024 following the end of the strike and was completed in two days. There are two sections to Wicked.

"Wicked" was supposed to be a single film, but director Jon Chu revealed in April 2022 that it would actually be divided into two parts.

"Became increasingly clear that it would be impossible to wrestle the story of Wicked into a single film without doing some real damage to it," he added in his statement.

He added, "With more space, we can tell the story of Wicked as it was meant to be told while bringing even more depth and surprise to the journeys of these beloved characters... Cynthia, Ariana, and I - and all of the cast and crew - pledge to create nothing less than an experience that honors its foundation for all the fans who've waited for this movie, and to offer a thrilling, fantastical world full of dynamic characters that invites in those who are unfamiliar."

Back in 2023, Ariana wrote about how "grateful" she was to be a part of the movie.

"To be here in Oz where everyday is a life-changing one," her Instagram message began.

"I don't want it to end. So while I am still here, present, now, I just wanted to....exclaim my tremendous gratitution ! and allow my heart to overflow. I hope this isn't all a dream because as present as i am attempting to be, it sure does feel like one," she added.

Arriving in time for the 2024 Christmas season is Wicked: Part One. The film's premiere date is November 27, 2024. November 26, 2025, will mark a year from the release of Wicked: Part Two in theaters.
