Beyoncé has spoken about her "rebellious" choice to chop off her hair in a pixie cut 10 years ago - coinciding with the time Jay-Z cheated on her.

During "a very huge emotional transition" in her life, the 42-year-old singer revealed in an interview for Essence's March and April Beauty Issue that she made the decision to cut off her hair.
She stated that she "just wanted it off" because she wanted her outward look to mirror the inward "metamorphosis" she was experiencing.
Beyoncé responded thoughtfully to a question regarding her period of short hair and whether or not it signified a "life change" during the interview.
Accordng to Daily Mail UK, Remembering that day, she stated she didn't have a specific hairdo in mind, simply wanted to 'liberate' herself by getting her hair chopped short. She recalled the day she made the decision to chop off all of her hair.
"I remember the day I decided to just cut all my hair off,' she said. 'I didn't have a particular style in mind," she said.
Then, she acknowledged that she was going through a noteworthy period in her life.

"It wasn't an aesthetic choice, but it was a very big emotional transformation and metamorphosis that I was going through," she said.

She added, "So much of my identity as a performer has been connected to flowing hair,' she explained. 'Cutting my hair off was me rebelling against being this woman that society thinks I'm supposed to be.''
The 16 Carriages hitmaker revealed that she wanted to break free from the pressures placed on her as a mother and that she had recently welcomed her 12-year-old daughter Blue Ivy.
There were suspicions of her husband Jay-Z's adultery back in 2013, and three years later, Beyoncé released her album Lemonade, which alluded to it.
Later, in an interview with The New York Times Style Magazine, he admitted that he had cheated and made a suggestion that their marriage had come dangerously close to dissolution.
At present, Beyonce's flowing hair is back.
