Bradley Cooper and Lady Gaga's 2018 film "A Star Is Born" was a massive success as it received numerous praises from critics, got nominated in several categories, and even won an Academy Award for the song "Shallow."

However, the movie almost went a different direction as the actor, who was also the director of the film, initially pitched the idea to Beyoncé instead of Lady Gaga and he recalled a "crazy encounter" that happened at the musician's home.

Cooper sat down in an interview with the SAG-AFTRA Foundation where he revealed that the role of Ally Maine was initially presented to Beyoncé before Lady Gaga took the part.

He explained during the conversation that he pitched Beyoncé for the role to studio executive Greg Silverman who agreed with the idea as long as she's getting paid for "under $25 million."

The actor then recalled the day when he went to the singer's house where he saw her husband Jay-Z watching an interesting television program.

"I went to Beyoncé's house, and JAY-Z was watching Judge Judy, I still remember. I'm not kidding. And I was freaking [out]. I remember I had this weird cough when I was pitching it to her," he recalled. (via People Magazine)

He added that he and the singer worked on the idea for a year, as he added, "It was crazy. She was incredible and so was he, and we developed it for like a year together. I mean, she's one of the greatest people of all time. Then that fell through."

Aside from Beyoncé, Cooper also thought of Adele to play the lead role, but he noted that he received a text from her saying she was "busy."

How the Role of Ally Maine Went to Lady Gaga

Cooper later noted that he was able to see Lady Gaga perform live at a benefit concert, and right at that moment, he knew that the role was perfect for her.

"It just blew the doors off of the whole place, and it was in that moment where it was like, 'That's it. What was I even thinking?' And then I asked to meet her," he added.

"A Star Is Born" went on to become one of the biggest movies of 2018 as it earned eight nominations at the Academy Awards in 2019.

The film took home the Best Original Song for their track "Shallow."
