Taylor Swift is undoubtedly one of the most talented songwriters of this generation, as she was able to release countless massive hits that fans enjoyed and loved, but did you know her talent in writing could be due to genetics?

According to Today, the musician is allegedly related to a famed American poet, Emily Dickinson. It was reported by the outlet that they are sixth cousins, three times removed.

Both of them are said to be related to a 17th-century English immigrant who moved to the United States. That common relative is reported to be Swift's 9th great-grandfather and Dickinson's 6th great-grandfather. He was one of the early people to live in Windsor, Connecticut.

"Taylor Swift's ancestors remained in Connecticut for six generations until her part of the family eventually settled in northwestern Pennsylvania, where they married into the Swift family line," Ancestry told the outlet. (via Page Six)

Unfortunately, the Dickinson family had suffered from many mental health problems, and it was reported that some of its family members battled anxiety, depression, agoraphobia, and more.

Taylor Swift Has Acknowledged Emily Dickinson Before

The outlet noted that Swift publicly acknowledged her alleged cousin during her acceptance speech at the Nashville Songwriters Association International in 2022, where she was awarded the Songwriter-Artist of the Decade Award.

At the time, the musician noted that the lyrics of her songs felt like a letter written by Emily Dickinson's great-grandmother "while sewing a lace curtain."

In addition, fans had speculated that the album "Evermore" was inspired by Dickinson as she announced the album on Dec. 10, 2020, the same day as the poet's birthday.

Dickinson also had a poem before titled "One Sister Have I in Our House," which contained the word "forevermore."

Taylor Swift to Pay Tribute to Her Poetic Roots?

Coincidentally, Swift will release a brand new album in April 2024 titled "The Tortured Poets Department," seemingly an homage to her poetic roots.

She announced that she would drop a new record when she received the best pop vocal award at this year's Grammy Awards at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.

Fans have been expecting her to announce the re-recorded version of "Reputation," but they were met with a more shocking surprise as she announced her 11th studio album, the follow-up to her 2022 record "Midnights."
