Paul Simon shocked fans in 2023 when he announced that it would be "extremely" unlikely for him to return to the big stage as his left ear had almost completely lost its hearing.

More recently, the singer gave fans hope that there would still be a chance for him to make a big comeback.

The singer spoke with Stephen Colbert at an Alex Gibney documentary event, and he shared positive news, saying his hearing has come back to the point that he's comfortable singing and playing some instruments.

"[The hearing has] come back to enough of a degree that I'm comfortable singing and playing guitar and a few other instruments," he revealed. (via Page Six)

Although he can hear his voice already, there is still a problem, as he added, "if there's a drum or an electric guitar, it's too loud and I can't hear my voice."

Simon has yet to announce if he'll perform on tour or in concerts in the future, but he revealed that he will do a "rehearsal" to see if he can finish his Seven Psalms album.

"I'm optimistic that I can," he said of performing.
