Alicia Keys is back to releasing music with an inspiring new single "We Are Here" and on Monday morning (Sept. 15), the R&B singer went on The Today Show to perform the single and talk about the conversation that inspired her new single, why she's here and to perform the track itself.

In a pre-performance interview with Matt Lauer, Keys once again touched on the in-depth conversation that she had with friends that sparked "We Are here" and explained her purpose for releasing the inspirational single.

"With the backdrop of everything that's going on in the world and the frustration that I think we're all feeling as people, I'm wondering what we can all do about it. We all have a voice, but how can it be used?" she said. "I really just want this song to be the dialogue that makes us ask ourselves, 'Why are we here? What are we here to do?' Because if we can start that dialogue with ourselves, it can start a bigger conversation about how we actually can bring change to the world."

Keys also noted that she's here for "you" and to make a difference in the world, sparked by the viral social media hashtag #WeAreHere that spawned from her single.

In addition to music news, Keys also touched upon her pregnancy with baby No. 2, citing that her firstborn son Egypt with husband Swizz Beatz was cool with having a younger sibling, due in December.
