On Monday, A24 released the first trailer for its upcoming horror flick MaXXXine, the third installment in Ti West's X trilogy. Mia Goth is set to reprise her role as adult film star Maxine Minx, and will be joined by a star-studded cast, including pop star Halsey.

This will be Halsey's, nee Ashley Frangipane, second time on the big screen in a live-action role. In 2018, she made a brief appearance in Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper's widely acclaimed A Star is Born. In the blockbuster 2018 movie musical, Halsey plays herself and presents Gaga's character Ally with the Grammy for Best New Artist.

The "Without Me" singer previously voiced animated characters in Teen Titans Go! To the Movies as Wonder Woman and as Porsha Crystal in Sing 2.

She is also set to star in Americana, an unreleased film co-starring Sydney Sweeney and Paul Walter Hauser. The film premiered at South by Southwest in March, 2023 before being picked up for distribution by Lionsgate. Americana is a crime-thriller described by the Hollywood Reporter as "a hybrid crime drama in the Tarantino mold."

The name of Halsey's character in MaXXXine has yet to be announced, but she appears to be a central figure in the plot. The first photo from the film, released in May, 2023, features Goth and Halsey in Hollywood as Goth sporting a green and black outfit and Halsey in a large fur coat.

In the trailer for MaXXXine, Halsey's character and Maxine walk down the street as Halsey says "I don't like walking around here with that frickin' night stalker guy on the loose." The film follows Maxine as she navigates a Hollywood serial killer.

"So said every dead girl in Hollywood," Halsey later says in response to Maxine's confident declaration that she can handle herself. In X, Maxine proved to herself and audiences that she's more than capable of getting a little bloody, but perhaps this new villain will be too strong a foe for Goth's character.

A24 released an official synopsis for MaXXXine: "In 1980s Hollywood, adult film star and aspiring actress Maxine Minx finally gets her big break. But as a mysterious killer stalks the starlets of Hollywood, a trail of blood threatens to reveal her sinister past."

Halsey, meanwhile, has dropped hints that new music is coming.

The Badlands singer recently took to tumblr, writing, "I've been keeping a secret for longer than I can handle and this album is my confession." She elaborated that she "need[s] to come up for air and I promise promise promise it will be worth the wait so soon."

Halsey's most recent album was 2021's If I Can't Have Love, I Want Power. The album was produced by Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross of Nine Inch Nails, and was a unique departure from the artist's alt-pop sound. The record leaned into heavier guitars and an industrial rock vibe.

MaXXXine hits theaters on July 5, 2024. See the trailer for MaXXXine below.
