Fresh off of a successful awards season, country star Jelly Roll is set to take to a different kind of track in the 2 Bears 5K with Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura. Kreischer and Segura are the hosts of 2 Bears, 1 Cave, a popular comedy podcast where the two "talk a lot of sh*t and challenge each other over everything."
Jelly Roll not only picked up three awards at the CMTs in November, but also earned four nominations for the upcoming ACM Awards. He also snagged three iHeartRadio Music Awards earlier this month. The star even earned two Grammy nominations this year in the Best New Artist and Best Country Duo/Group performance categories.
In preparation for the upcoming race, the "Wild Ones" singer has been hitting the gym and improving his diet. He recently detailed his progress to People Magazine.
The singer proudly announced that he is "probably down 70-something pounds."
"I've been really kicking ass, man," he beamed. Jelly Roll continued to say that he was running two to three miles a day, four to six days a week. He is "doing 20 to 30 minutes in the sauna, six minutes in a cold plunge everyday."
He has been training for a few months now. In February, he said that the process was "going really good."
The 39-year-old reported that he was looking to lose weight during his training. "As long as I'm training for this thing, I'm just shedding weight," he said. He detailed that he's been "eating crazy good, so I'm excited."
The country star explained that he may not be running the whole 5K,but that he is "definitely going to get the 3.1 miles done." He will most likely be on "a brisk power walk." This will be his first race.
Jelly Roll announced that he would join the 5K via an Instagram post. He detailed that Kyle Forgeard of the popular online group Nelk Boys convinced him to participate in the race. In his post, Jelly Roll directly addresses Kreischer and Segura.
"I'll be there, baby. I'm in the woods walking every morning. 5K by May, baby! 5K by May!" he exclaimed.
The 2 Bears 5K with Bert Kreischer and Tom Segura, the first of its kind, will take place at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California and will be held on May 7. The event is a part of the Netflix Is A Joke Fest and sponsored by Por Osos. Runners, who must pay $50 to participate, will receive a finisher medal, beer, and shirt when they reach the finish line.
Jelly Roll will be supported by his wife, Bunnie XO. He joked that his goal of a 15-minute mile will have him "huffing a bit," but that this pace would be "sauntering" for Bunnie. In February, he revealed he was currently clocking in a 21-minute mile.
Jelly Roll and Bunnie had a harrowing experience in March when their private jet had to make an emergency landing after an unexpected malfunction.
Jelly Roll will head out on his The Beautifully Broken Tour at the end of the month. Warren Zeiders and Alexandra Kay will be joining him on the road. Last month, Jelly Roll joined rapper Joyner Lucas on his single, "Best for Me."
