Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean" jacket along with a collection of iconic music memorabilia will go up for auction next month at Julien's Auctions.

The auction house expects bids ranging from $80,000 to $100,000 for the historic garment that the late King of Pop wore during the 1984 Victory Tour.

The 'Billie Jean' Jacket

According to Julien's, fashion designer Bill Whitten created the jacket, which is part of a collection featuring Jackson's famous crystal glove.

The jacket was displayed at the GRAMMY Museum, Mississippi, in Cleveland from 2017 to 2019, as part of a special exhibit honoring the 35th anniversary of Jackson's hit album Thriller.

The following song released from the album was "Billie Jean," marking the second single following the initial release of "The Girl Is Mine." This iconic album graced shelves on a memorable day - November 29, 1982.

From July to December 1984, the Jackson brothers embarked on The Victory Tour, a series of 55 performances that generated approximately $75 million in revenue, according to the auction house. Several songs performed during the tour were selected from Michael's successful solo albums Thriller and Off the Wall, released in 1979.

Michael Jackson Effect

In an interview with the Kansas City NBC affiliate KHSB, concert promoter Russ Cline vividly described the electrifying energy that emanated from the audience when Michael graced the stage during the mid-80s.

"It would knock you down like a tsunami of cheering. When he went on the stage, he left it all on the stage. He never came out with nothing left."

Reflecting on purchasing tickets for popular concerts in 1984 versus now, Cline noted significant changes in the ticket-buying experience over forty years.

He explained, "The highest-priced tickets were with tax-$30. Face value-$28. It was all done by mail order. Thousands of tickets were ordered, and you could only order six at a time, and they were filled by hand. Today, we have Ticketmaster."

The MUSIC ICONS auction is scheduled for May 29 and 30, 2024.

The event will be held at the Hard Rock Cafe in New York City and simultaneously broadcasting it online at juliensauctions website.
