Cardi B made a stunning appearance on the Met Gala carpet this Monday, donning a massive black gown. Interestingly, her original plan was to undergo a shocking transformation into an elderly woman with the aid of makeup and prosthetics.

Taking to her official TikTok account, the rapper shared behind-the-scenes footage of her preparation for the biggest night in fashion. In the footage, she can be seen sitting down in a makeup chair, getting prosthetics to look like an old woman, with wrinkles on her face, neck, and arms.

Her makeup artist, Erika La' Pearl, confirmed that the "Bongos" hitmaker initially planned to arrive at the fashion event as an old lady as it seemed to have been her interpretation of the theme "Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion."

"This was first idea we tested for metgala with facial and body prosthetics... I usually make her tan so I didn't put any makeup on her neck and chest," she wrote on Instagram.

In addition to the prosthetics, which were done with the help of drag queen and renowned makeup transformation artist Alexis Stone, the rapper also wore a wig in different shades of gray styled by Tokyo Stylez.

Stone gave fans an insight into the transformation in a separate post. In it, they revealed that the musician underwent a 3D scan to capture her face and neck, and then they went on to create 18 pieces of prosthetics.

The makeup artist flew to New York City to test the look, but it was later scrapped as Cardi B didn't wear any prosthetics on the carpet.

"Creative directions change, it happens but a really cool BTS look at what could have been the Sleeping Beauty look," Stone wrote.

Cardi B went on to arrive at the major event, but she received negative comments from social media users after referring to her designer as "Asian and everything."

According to People magazine, Sensen Lii of Windowsen designed her outfit. The rapper has since defended herself, saying she was very scared on the carpet because she had a lot on her mind.

"The dress was supposed to be on a little podium, and I've been practicing how to pose on the podium. But on the carpet, I wasn't allowed to use the podium. So I had a lot of things in my mind, and I was being rushed to the front of the line," she said in a since-expired post.

In addition, she forgot how to pronounce the designer's name because it was "a little bit complicated."
