Musiq Soulchild has had quite a successful R&B career but as of late he's decided to venture off into the other side of the spectrum.

Soulchild, or The Husel, released a five-track mixtape kickstarting his rap career.

During a recent interview with Madame Noir, the singer turned rapper explained his decision to switch things up.

"Every time I turn on the radio, I hear this sound," said The Husel "It's challenging to hear that sound [R&B] on the radio right now, for whatever reason. R&B is struggling right now. And I'm the kind of person to entertain people with what they're saying entertains them, and right now this sound is what's entertaining them."

Although his new persona known as The Husel may be hard for some fans to get used to, the musician says he's not concerned with negative criticism.

"I do care about what you think, however, I'm not going to let a negative response to sort of compromise what my intentions are," he explained. "My intentions are to give people quality content in however many ways that I can actually pull off."

As far as reinventing himself, The Husel discussed why he's keeping his rapping and singing separate.

"It may not be something that you expect from me, which is why I didn't want to compromise the other brand. So If I want to do this, just start over."

Sounds like he's got a solid plan and he has a message for anyone doubting his abilities.

"The game is too real, you ain't finna cut me out," an auto-tuned Husel raps on "Generate."
