Richmond's own Foo Fighters Day was celebrated this past Sept. 17. To partake, the band played a crowdfunded concert at the National Theater. During their show, frontman Dave Grohl took some time to tell an incredible story about the first time he ever saw Gwar play, and the impact the experience had on him, in order to pay tribute to the group's longtime frontman Oderus Urungus, according to Revolver.

Grohl's story hit the crowd hard, particularly because the thrash metal band hails from the Virginia town.

Grohl reportedly grew up in a Virginia suburb not too far away from the Richmond area and kicked off his music career in the Washington D.C. hardcore scene.

In the below clip, Grohl touches on a past interview in which Oderus Urungus, whose real name is Dave Brockie, had some not-so-great things to say about the Foo Fighter. "One of the greatest compliments, or non-compliments, that I have ever gotten in my life," he said, "I remember seeing this interview with Dave Brockie where they asked Brockie about a Grammy nomination, and somehow he made his way to me, and he said, 'Dave Grohl, he's actually had his teeth removed so he could fit more Grammy d*cks in his f*cking mouth.'"

Following a big laugh from both the crowd and the band, the guitarist noted, "So, right now, I give it up to Brockie. He would f*cking hate that I dedicated a f*cking song to him."

Brockie unfortunately passed away back in March of this year from an alleged heroin overdose.
