Jon Stewart learned last week that if you joke about One Direction, you will have to deal with the group's extremely devoted fans. But in true Daily Show fashion, Stewart recently laughed off the whole "situation" with another punchline.

While commenting on Barack Obama's recent address about climate change, Stewart guessed at what the president pegged as the world's most influential issue. "The terrifying enthusiasm of One Direction fans?" the host joked, following it up with, "I had to log off my own Instagram. They're vicious!" Check out the clip below to see Stewart's response.

During the Sept. 23 episode of the his long-running late night show, Stewart spoke with correspondent Jessica Williams about the escalating ISIS problem. Williams said that they're were all kinds of terrorist groups sprouting up, referencing a fake organization "Al'Kill'ya All" before digging into 1D. "Just as you were talking, a new terrorist group formed with one member each from ISIS, Al Nusra, Al Qaeda, One Direction and the Zetas drug cartel," she joked. "They like to hijack planes, Jon, and take them to Cuba. They're really taking it old school. Very vintage."

Fans took to Twitter to defend the group, specifically Zayn Malik, who is Muslim. "Basically a TV show called Zayn a terrorist because of his religion. #thedailyshowgonetoofar," a fan account tweeted. According to Billboard, the hashtag was a top trending topic by the weekend.

Previous to his on-air response, Stewart tweeted, "Dear 1D fans: We didn't know the band members' names, religions, hobbies, etc. Just knew they were popular. But not THIS popular. #whoa."
