Aretha Franklin recently stopped by the Late Show with David Letterman and delivered a live rendition of a cover of Adele's "Rolling In The Deep." Whitney Houston's mother and Gospel singing great, Cissy Houston attempted to sing backup, forgetting many of the lyrics.

Franklin became a trending topic on social media following her stellar performance, but there was another element that made her mash-up of "Rolling in the Deep" and "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" such an internet sensation: one of her backup singers.

Throughout much of the performance, Houston could be seen rolling her eyes, not moving along with the rest of the backup singers, and flat out not singing the lyrics. Maybe it wouldn't have been so bad if she wasn't just to the left of her right in the camera's angle or if the woman next to her didn't give her that awkward smile.

Check out the performance after the jump.

The "Queen of Soul" released her cover of Adele's Grammy-winning 21 single from her new album, Aretha Franklin Sings The Great Diva Classics earlier this week.

As previously reported, Franklin will also cover Etta James, Alicia Keys, Gloria Gaynor, Barbra Streisand and Chaka Khan, among many others.

The album is being produced by Andre 3000, who recently spoke about working on the project with NPR.

The OutKast rapper says he chose the Prince song "Nothing Compares 2 U," which was made famous by Sinead O'Connor, for the album. "It's a completely different take on the song," he said. "It doesn't sound like the Prince version. It doesn't sound like the Sinead O'Connor version either. It's Aretha in a different element, but something she's familiar with. But it was really really fun doing it. And just to hear her use her voice like this instrument. She just came in the studio and really just knocked it out in about an hour."

Aretha Franklin Sings The Great Diva Classics is set to be released October 21.
