In the teaser for a Los Angeles radio station's (Power 106 FM) upcoming interview with Kendrick Lamar, the rapper explains his thinking behind the verse heard across the world on Big Sean's 'Control.'

Kendrick Lamar's verse had everyone talking. The things the Compton rapper said were fighting words. He was essentially telling his peers to pack it up and leave because he was taking over the rap game.

Some artists, such as Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B, King Los and Cassidy, retaliated with their own 'Control' verses, others stayed silent, and a few, including Ice T and Missy Elliot, even applauded the Lamar for shaking up the currently inert rap scene with just one verse.

In the teaser clip, Kendrick says that he didn't think people would speculate so much over the meaning of the verse and that he just wanted to rap, plain and simple.

"I think it's a case of maybe I should dumb down my lyrics just a little bit," Lamar said. In response to the "King of New York" statement, Lamar said: "The irony of that line is that the people who actually understood it and got it were the actual kings of New York, you know, me sitting down with them this past week, and them understanding, it's not actually about being the king of whatever coast, it's about leaving a mark as great as Biggie, as great as Pac."

According to Rolling Stone, the rapper talked to New York station Hot 97 about how he wasn't trying to say he was the most talented rapper in the game but rather that he was the most hungry.

"I think the ones that really took it out of context was the people that want to grab an opportunity off the hype of the record, rather than actually tuning in and listening and knowing how hungry I am," Lamar said. "A lot of people think it's about talent, that's where they get it wrong. I'm saying I'm the most hungry. I respect the legends in the game; I respect the people that done it before me, the people that lost their lives over this. Because of what they laid down, I'm gonna try to go harder, breathe it and live it - that's the point of the whole verse."

The Power 106 FM interview airs tomorrow at 7:20 a.m., so stay tuned for any updates after the show.
