Sinead O'Connor has been keeping pretty quiet over the past few years, other than penning a letter to Miley Cyrus, of course. But now, the famed Irish singer reportedly went on a tirade via her blog against both Dick Clark Productions and the American Music Awards. Why? They allegedly wanted her to appear on the awards show alongside Pope Francis.

We don't know how much you know about O'Connor, but the singer was once rather open about her feelings towards organized religion, citing a performance on Saturday Night Live from back in 1992 in which she tore up a photograph of then-Pope John Paul. The stunt got her banned from the notable NBC sketch show.

Following being asked to appear with the newest Pope, O'Connor took to her site to explain what went down. GossipCop notes that she was originally approached with the idea of appearing alongside a contemporary singer, but that idea was passed on, because "it was decided that it would be 'A great hook' to asked Pope Francis to appear with me," as the singer put it. Well, that was enough for O'Connor to basically explode...

The singer wrote, "Since naturally their idea was not only disrespectful to the pope and to millions of Catholics (The idea he ought to consider lowering his feet into the disgusting world of show business and celebrity at all! Never mind with Sinead O'Connor) they didn't get a response and consequently I'm now not doing that show."

Check out the full explosion over at O'Connor's site. And for that infamous SNL bit, watch that below:
