Canadian folk band The Strumbellas celebrated the U.S. release of their sophomore album We Still Move On Dance Floors last month. The effort won them the Juno Award for Roots & Traditional Album of the Year and was also nominated for the 2014 Polaris Prize. The band stopped by the Music Times offices before their show in NYC to talk about the album, their upcoming plans and what it felt like to win a Juno.

Frontman Simon Ward says the win was emotional for him.

"You've been working so hard and touring across the country over and over again, and you don't know if anyone is noticing then BOOM! you win a Juno," he told us. "It was kind of like the first moment for me that I kind of felt proud of what we were doing as group... and feeling like what we're doing is worth all of the long drives."

Since winning the Juno Award, the band has been touring the United States in support of We Still Move On Dance Floors.

Although Canadians are usually the ones known for being friendly, Ward said that he's been pleasantly surprised by the hospitality the band has encountered during their tour of the states.

"I've actually fallen head over heals in love with the US of A from touring here. I don't know what it's been, but like the people have just been so unbelievably nice to us and hospitable," he said. "Canadians have this reputation of being nice people, but I think it's easily matched by the States."

Although they've been busy on the road, the band is already hard at work writing for their next album, which Ward says is his current obsession.

"Planning this next record it's pretty much all I think about," he explained. "Even last night, you can ask the band, I forced them all to sit down and listen to demo after demo after demo after demo to be like how do we make this better...how do we make this record outstanding. It's a very unhealthy obsession I have right now, and I'm really excited about it."

The Strumbellas will be on tour until mid-November before heading home to Toronto.
