Pink Floyd's forthcoming "final" album is looking like it will take the record for the most preordered album in the history of Amazon.com...Amazon.com.uk that is.

Although that might not seem as glamourous as taking the top spot for the web retailer's entree history, it will place The Endless River ahead of one of the most preordered albums in the history of American albums as well, One Direction's Midnight Memories, which came out during 2013. According to NME, representatives for Amazon.com.uk confirmed the potential for the mark.

"That Pink Floyd's The Endless River could become the most pre-ordered album of all time on Amazon.co.uk, following other artists like One Direction and Robbie Williams who have held that top spot, is a testament to the strength and diversity of the UK music scene," said Steve Bernstein, the director of Digital Music for Amazon's European operations.

The album will be released on November 10 so we'll have nearly three weeks to get those last-minute preorders in and help Floyd get the record.

Amazon has confirmed that, regardless of its final tally, The Endless River is ultimately the most preordered album of 2014 thus far, surpassing releases from Coldplay's Ghost Stories as of Wednesday.

We admit that, although Taylor Swift isn't a native of the UK, that her forthcoming album 1989 hasn't provided more competition abroad for the preorder record. Swift announced last week—to her bitter British fans who couldn't get a hold of her new track "Out of The Woods"—that she was employing a method borrowed from Ed Sheeran, where those who preordered the album would get the single as well. Seemingly the strategy isn't working quite well enough to trump Pink Floyd.
