No doubt you've already heard about the first confirmed case of Ebola in New York City by now, thanks to the onslaught of social media. One story that hasn't picked up quite as much traction is how Dr. Craig Spencer visited locations hosting CMJ Music Marathon events before heading to the hospital.

Spencer reportedly attended a show at the Gutter, a Williamsburg music venue/bowling alley, on Wednesday night, according to The New York Times. The Gutter was originally scheduled to host further CMJ shows Thursday but those were cancelled. Health inspectors will reportedly give the venue a look on Friday morning although it's far from guaranteed that an OK review will mean the music will return tonight. Initial reports that Spencer had also gone to Brooklyn Bowl, the borough's other music venue/bowling alley, proved to be untrue.

There was some initial Twitter speculation that Music Times reporter Carolyn "Scarolyn" Menyes had attended a CMJ show at the Gutter this week but all indications seem to suggest that she's feeling fine, if a little grumpy but that's to be expected from her.

The CMJ Music Marathon is a massive exposure event featuring performances across lower Manhattan and Brooklyn, which of course means that people are concerned about every music fan in New York getting Ebola. Mayor Bill DeBlasio confirmed that yes, Spencer had used the subway while traversing the city, but no, there's no reason to freak out. The CDC lists Ebola as a danger to spread only after its symptoms have become clear. Spencer checked himself into Bellevue Hospital as soon as his fever set it and his fiancé has also checked herself into quarantine for safety purposes.

The rest of you guys can continue to enjoy CMJ. Our condolences to Mr. Spencer and the bands who find themselves sans shows.

UPDATE: The Gothamist reports that Gutter plans on reopening Friday.
