Resurrection was not a world-beating hip-hop album (it only spawned two lukewarm singles, "I Used To Love H.E.R." and "Resurrection") but it still remains an important part of the mid-'90s rap landscape.

Written and performed by Common (still Common Sense in 1994) and produced by No I.D., the record is fondly remembered today, and C recently sat down with Revolt to talk about the 20-year anniversary.

"It's funny to think about 20 years, because you know, sometimes it doesn't seem like that long," he said. "And then one other aspect of it is, I feel — first of all — grateful that I'm performing songs I used to love, or people that are only 23 years old in the audience know the song. That's already a blessing. It makes me feel like the music has a classy element to it."

He obviously didn't dwell on his sophomore album for long back in '94.

"One thing I learned from my career is not to focus on what you did in the past," he said. "Andre 3000 said a long time ago, 'You're only as good as your last cut.' For me, I stay in the present and do my best to be in the present. With that being said, I'm grateful that we had that album and people who were familiar with it or get familiar with it."

This year, Common and I.D. pumped out Nobody's Smiling.

For us to be working together 20 years later... We knew each other since we were like 10 years old. At the end of the day, it's like, 'Man, we're working together now.'
