Seventeen years after his death, John Denver has joined some of the world's greatest entertainers on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

As Billboard pointed out, Denver received the 2,531st star on the walk Friday, Oct. 24. His son Zak Deutschendorf and daughter Jesse Belle Denver were at the ceremony to see Denver's award.

The honor coincided with the opening of Sweet, Sweet Life: The Photographic Works of John Denver at Hollywood's Substrate Gallery. According to Denver's website, the gallery features thousands of photos that highlight the singer's travels over the years.

"It is a fascinating gift to get to know someone by looking through a lifetime of photographs, to see what was interesting, beautiful and worth remembering," curators of the exhibit wrote. "Through curating over 10,000 of John Denver's personal images, we found that his work not only represents his passionate vision of nature and the outdoors, but also chronicles the emotional beauty of society and individuals all over the world. He was an authentic, wide-eyed wanderer."

Denver rose to stardom with hits like "Sunshine on My Shoulders," "Rocky Mountain High" and "Take Me Home, Country Roads." He managed to put out 24 albums during his career, starting with 1966's John Denver Sings. Denver's final album, All Aboard!came out in 1997, two months before the beloved singer died in a plane crash.

"A pilot for over 20 years, Denver died on October 12, 1997, when the experimental plane he was flying suddenly dove into Monterey Bay, killing him instantly," Rolling Stone's biography of the artist reads. "After his death, some of those close to him revealed that Denver had suffered bouts of depression and insecurity throughout his life. His ashes were spread throughout his beloved Rocky Mountains."
