At a time when the country is tightening up security at various national buildings due to growing concerns over lone-wolf terrorist attacks, it is amazing how unprotected The White House continues to be. There have been numerous security breaches in the last several weeks, the most noteworthy being how Omar Gonzalez managed to hop the fence and end up astonishingly close to President Barack Obama's personal residence before being taken down. Now it has been confirmed that The White House's computer network has been hacked.

An anonymous official confirmed to Reuters that there has been suspicious cyber activity on an unclassified White House network. They refused to name names or place any kind of blame on a particular group that might be responsible for the hacking.

"In the course of assessing recent threats, we identified activity of concern on the unclassified EOP network. Any such activity is something that we take very seriously. In this case, we took immediate measures to evaluate and mitigate the activity. Our actions are ongoing and some of our actions have resulted in temporary outages and loss of connectivity for some EOP users," the official said.

As far back as Friday, Oct. 24, journalists who cover The White House on a daily basis were noticing delays in regular reports and updates they normally receive. At the time they were told it was due to technical problems, but that is obviously not the case now.

This is one more example of how many loopholes actually exist within our government. If the powers-that-be cannot keep their computer network secure, is it reasonable to believe they are unequipped to protect the American public against another terrorist attack?
