Last week , The Decemberists frontman Colin Meloy busked by a Williamsburg subway station in order to announce the band's first new album in nearly four years, What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World. Now, those who were unable to catch Meloy in Brooklyn can now hear a first taste of the studio version of the album's lead single "Make You Better."

Today (Oct. 31), The Decemberists released a minute-long trailer for the track, promising that there will be "more to come on Monday."

The song begins with an upbeat guitar hook before Meloy cuts in with the song's pining lyrics.

"I want you within fingers / I wanted you, thin fingernails / And when you bend backwards / I wanted you, I needed you / Oh, to make me better," he sings before the full band kicks in, building the mid-tempo track to a bit of a bigger roar.

The end of the trailer, which has parts that include studio footage and Meloy's time on the Williamsburg street corner, once again displays the What A Terrible World, What A Beautiful World cover art and announced that the album will be released on Jan. 20, 2015.

Meloy unveiled a full, acoustic version of "Make You Better" last week in Williamsburg. Music Times was on the scene to catch the 40-minute mini-set. Moving away from the country influence of The Decemberists' last album The King is Dead, "Make You Better" at once reveals a more mature Decemberists and a band that is moving back toward its roots.
