In a recent chat with Rolling Stone, Sammy Hagar made it clear that he would be up for a reunion with former band Van Halen, if the bad blood ever turns good.

"I would play with anybody that loves me and that I love," the singer said. "That would include Van Halen, but the love's not there right now. I do love those guys. We really bumped heads on the last tour." Hagar was referencing the 2004 tour, which, by all accounts, was not pretty.

"Anyone that saw that last tour or read my book knows that I'm not gonna take any blame 'cause there's no blame to give me," he added. "I went out and did my job probably better than anyone else in that band. Anyone that saw the show, I think, would agree with me."

Hagar went on to say that by the last 40 shows, he was "miserable." The singer remembers thinking, "Well, maybe Eddie [Van Halen] will straighten out" in reference to the guitarist's visible intoxication onstage and escalating alcohol problem.

The "I Can't Drive 55" singer has since gone on to form a supergroup, Chickenfoot, with former Van Halen bassist Michael Anthony, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith and impressive axeman Joe Satriani. They put out two albums in 2009 and 2011 with no plans for a third.

Hagar also discussed his involvement with the massive tribute album The Art of McCartney, which features tons of big names doing covers in honor of the former Beatle. Hagar was tasked with contributing the happy-go-lucky "Birthday."

"The guy that was producing the thing asked me," he said about joining the record. "I've thrown a birthday party in Cabo every year for 25 years, so I'm pretty much a birthday celebration guy. 'Birthday' is a good screamer and a nice fit for my voice, and the guitar riff is really nice."

The album is due out Nov. 18.
