Katy Perry released her newest single "Dark Horse" today off the upcoming album "Prism." The song features a verse by Juicy J, and is a departure from her usual sound. It mixes hip-hop beats with a haunting ballad.
In a hexy-sexy voice, Perry dares future lovers to fall for her. She sings, "So you wanna play with magic / boy, you should know what you're falling for / Baby do you dare to do this? / Cause I'm coming atcha like a dark horse / Are you ready for, ready for / A perfect storm, perfect storm / Cause once you're mine, once you're mind / There's no going back."
Fans chose "Dark Horse" over "Walking On Air" to be the next single released. She talked to MTV News about the track.
"It's kind of a juxtaposition. It's got me, a pop artist, with a little bit of an urban kind of hip-hop-flavored background soundtrack to it," she told them. "And the lyrics are kind of witchy and dark, as if I was a witch warning this man not to fall in love with me, and if you do know I'm going to be your last."
Although it lost in the polls, "Walking on Air" will be available on Sept. 30 with the full album, "Prism" scheduled for an Oct. 22 release via Capitol Records.
