"This is one of those songs that really paints a picture and sets a mood," McGraw told The Boot about "Shotgun Rider," which was written by Marv Green, Hillary Lindsey, and Troy Verges. "You look over and see the person that you love next to you sitting in the front seat, and you think, 'How good do I have it? Life is perfect.' There is a certain warmth to this song and several others like it that really establish the tone for the whole album."

"Shotgun Rider" is the third single to be released from Tim McGraw's latest album Sundown Heaven Town, following "Meanwhile Back at Mama's" and "Lookin' for That Girl." Sundown Heaven Town was released back in September, and was McGraw's 13th studio album overall, his first since 2013's Two Lanes for Freedom.

"The album is very encompassing of everything that I've done in my career," McGraw said about Sundown Heaven Town in a press release (via Radio.com). "You can certainly hear parts of my career throughout all of these songs, as well as the future and where my music is headed."

Next month, McGraw will be performing on "A Very Grammy Christmas" TV special, alongside Ariana Grande, Maroon 5, and Pharrell Williams. The special will air on December 5 at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.
