Sometimes, the Sonic Highways lead you to a different place... like the studio and couch of the Ellen show. Today (Nov. 20), Foo Fighters appeared on the daytime talk show to give the TV premiere of its new single "In The Clear" and to have some family-friendly discussions with Ellen DeGeneres.

The band ripped through the New Orleans inspired "In The Clear." Despite having "god damn" bleeped out for the daytime studio audience, Dave Grohl sounded as crisp as ever and the rest of the band followed suit.

Though there wasn't a lot of unbridled Foo energy, the actual musicianship was there and as bold as ever. And, it's hard to fully shred on this mid-tempo number.

In addition to performing on the show, Grohl also had a mini gab session with DeGeneres, wherein he revealed a little bit about his homelife with his three daughters, Violet (8), Harper (5) and Ophelia Grohl (3 months).

Though Grohl is one of the biggest rock stars around by night, by morning he's basically like any other involved dad. He wakes up at 5:45 a.m., makes his kids' "snack packs" and prepares their backpacks, drives them 45 minutes to and from school in traffic and then when he gets back home, he will start his music playing day.

And, despite his best efforts, his girls have not followed his rocking music tastes. Like the rest of America, Grohl's daughters are "All About That Bass" and listen to the likes of Meghan Trainor and Katy Perry in the car.
