Selena Gomez is nursing a broken heart, and she shared her thoughts on stage at the 2014 American Music Awards. Earlier this month, Gomez released her Justin Bieber inspired For You single "The Heart Wants What It Wants," and on Sunday night (Nov. 23), the heartbreaking, honest track got its live debut at the AMAs.

Gomez took a simple approach for her performance, standing still on a slightly raised platform. Wearing a stunning, low-cut beige chiffon gown, she appeared to be genuinely near tears while she sang the personal ballad.

As Gomez stood center stage, looking as stunning as ever, a massive screen in the background played a variety of symbolic scenes. There were thorns, shattered glasses and town roses and, most poignantly, a pair of angel's wings that fluttered behind Gomez, making her appear as an otherworldly figure herself.

The performance got most emotional near the end, when Gomez whispered away from the microphone and to herself, eyes closed and seemingly holding back tears.

The screen behind her then showed the figure of a man reaching for her behind some glass, and it looked quite a bit like Bieber himself.

And it's not excessive to say the package was stunning.

Gomez was not the lone performer at the 2014 AMAs. She joined the likes of 5 Seconds of Summer, Taylow Swift, Ariana Grande, One Direction and Iggy Azalea (and more) in the lineup.
