Even without Taylor Swift, it seems like Spotify and the artists that stream their music are doing just fine - especially One Direction. Today (Nov. 25), it was announced that the "Night Changes" band is the newest act in the service's history to exceed one billion plays. Following the release of its latest album FOUR, 1D join the likes of Eminem, Rihanna, Coldplay and Katy Perry in the one billion-plus club.

According to The Guardian, One Direction is the 14th most-played artist in the history of Spotify and the 14th to get the one billion streams honor. "We congratulate 1D on joining the very select club of artists who are true streaming superstars," Spotify's Kevin Brown said in a statement.

It's a "select club" that takes massive amounts of streaming time and dedication. One Direction are reported to appear in over 20 million Spotify playlists. And the amount of time it would take for one person to listen to over one billion One Direction songs? Oh, just 5000 years.

And despite what Taylor Swift may claim, the massive amounts of single streams for One Direction are deeming to be profitable for the English boy band. The Guardian reports that the band has made anywhere between $6 and $8.4 million from streams on Spotify alone.

Despite the massive number of plays, One Direction still falls behind the biggest names on Spotify. In addition to the previously mentioned artists, acts like David Guetta, Calvin Harris, Drake and Pitbull have also exceeded one billion plays.
