The "surprise" album has become the new trend in pop and hip-hop, and J. Cole bought in with his upcoming studio effort 2014 Forest Hills Drive. An ode to his childhood home in Fayetteville, North Carolina, where J. Cole grew up and the address he recently purchased, J. Cole is taking it back to where everything started for him. As reported by The Fader, he has now released the full tracklist for the 13-track album that notably will not have any listed features.

Despite the short timeline to promo the album, J. Cole has been active interacting with fans and creating buzz around the project and his music. J. Cole has been centering a lot of his promo on the actual property of 2014 Forest Hills Drive. He brought out some fans and neighbors for a special listening session at his newly purchased home and brought along Complex to film the process.

He explained to the magazine what the house means to him and what he plans on doing it with going forward in the cover story.

"This is the first house I've ever owned in my life," he said to begin the tour. "And it just happens to be the last house I grew up in. Y'all got to pardon the fact that the crib is empty. The goal and my intention is that some family will get to move into this place very close to rent free, and we'll give them two years," Cole explains. "Every two years, a new family will move in. Hopefully, by the time they leave, they'll be in a much better position than they were when they came."

The album will be his first since his 2013 effort Born Sinner. He has been out of the spotlight for much of 2014, other than a few remixes, features and a tour, but now we know he was busy in the studio working on an album. He released a documentary about the making of the album, which you can view below to bring the whole story together.
