You would think that a communications director for the GOP would understand the power of words when combined with social media, wouldn't you? Apparently Elizabeth Lauten underestimated the power that even she, an aide to Republican Congressman Stephen Fincher, might actually have. After ripping apart President Obama's teen daughters Sasha and Malia, Lauten has basically talked herself out of a job.

Last Wednesday, Obama gave the annual pardoning of the National Thanksgiving Turkey and his daughters were right by his side. They looked like typical teens that would likely rather be somewhere else, but honestly, who could blame them? Rather than seeing it for the awkward moment that it was, Lauten took to social media to address Obama's girl's, saying in part:

Dear Sasha and Malia, I get you're both in those awful teen years, but you're a part of the First Family, try showing a little class. At least respect the part you play. Then again your mother and father don't respect their positions very much, or the nation for that matter, so I'm guessing you're coming up a little short in the "good role model" department. Nevertheless, stretch yourself. Rise to the occasion. Act like being in the White House matters to you. Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar. And certainly don't make faces during televised, public events.

Pretty harsh words to lay on a 13 and 16-year old, and the backlash, criticism and vilification of Lauten was pretty immediate. While she deleted her post it lives on in screen-capped glory on many sites. By this afternoon Lauten confirmed that she would be resigning her post that had allowed her to hustle for the GOP. While that brought a bit of resolution to this incident, many believe that Lauten's comments amounted to cyber bullying. Do you agree? Should Lauten's criticism of these kids ultimately cost her the job in Fincher's office? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!
