The Backstreet Boys's lasting power will be tested when Gravitas Ventures releases Show 'Em What You're Made Of — "an emotionally open and honest documentation" of the group — across North American theaters Jan. 30.

According to a press release, the material was filmed over a recent two-year period.

"From 1992 to 2002, we were the biggest band in the world," member Brian Littrell said in the release. "No one thought it was going to be as big as it was. Then it just stopped. And what do you do when you're a full grown man in a boy band?"

The film was directed by Stephan Kijak (Stones in Exile) and stars the five original group members: Littrell, Nick Carter, Howie Dorough, AJ McLean and Kevin Richardson, all of whom produced the flick.

"Gravitas Ventures is very excited to be part of Backstreet Boys: Show 'Em What You're Made Of," commented Julie Candelaria, vice president of marketing for Gravitas Ventures. "The Backstreet Boys are not only pop icons, but legends in the music space. We are thrilled to share this highly anticipated story of their incredible journey."

The group made more money than God during the '90s, with more than 130 million records sold worldwide to date. Their most recent effort was 2013's In a World Like This, which reached No. 5 on the Billboard 200, but failed to generate much radio play.

Fans got a head's-up that the new doc was coming when Richardson tipped off Billboard in July.

"We've been filming during the making of the record, the rehearsals for the tour, while we've been out on the road," Richardson said. "It's kind of a making-of the record along with our story, how we got together and the ups and downs and the roller coaster that we've been on."

The film will also be made available on demand this January and will make its television premiere as part of VH1's Rock Docs franchise in spring 2015.
