Friday, The Libertines took a huge step toward releasing their first studio album in more than a decade. The London-based group announced they are signing with Virgin EMI to kickstart the follow-up to 2004's eponymous record.

"I don't know what to say, I'm so happy," Pete Doherty said in a press release (via Pitchfork). "It was a beautiful day."

Bandmate Carl Barât added: "After everything we have been through The Albion sails on course again, I couldn't be more excited."

Based on a post from the group's Facebook page, they signed the deal on Ko Si Chang Island.

"Today we signed a new record deal with Virgin EMI Records on Ko Si Chang Island," the post read. "It's going to happen. After everything we have been through The Albion sails on course again, and we couldn't be more excited. This signals a new era and a new beginning for The Libertines."

As previously reported, frontman Doherty revealed that one of the potential producers for the band's comeback album is Jack White, and claimed the Third Man Records owner "said he'd like to produce" the The Libertines' third album.

"I'd love him to do it," Doherty admitted. "It'd be amazing. But I won't get too hopeful."

Meanwhile, the group announced a new tour documentary on Nov. 24.

Roger Sargent, who filmed 2012's There Are No Innocent Bystanders, returned to film the new project, which was revealed after a series of cryptic social media posts last week.

"No more teasing ... all of these pictures and quotes are taken from a wonderful short film that Roger Sargent made for us ahead of our recent tour," the announcement read. "We'll be unveiling the film in full soon, so keep your eyes on the Good Ship Albion as it sets course once again."
