While Santa Claus is up at the North Pole this December, Coca-Cola Zero Colombia is sending Metallica down south to Antarctica — a continent covered 98 percent in ice — for a face melting concert. The event will take place between Dec. 2 and Dec. 15.

According to Blabbermouth, drummer Lars Ulrich told a San Francisco radio station last month that the band had a surprise in store for its fans. "There's another frontier heading in Metallica's direction in December," he told them.

This is not the first time a band has performed on the continent, however. In 2007, British Antarctic Survey's Rothera Research Station's indie-rock house band, Nuntak, played a show as part of the Live Earth concert series that took place on all seven contents on July 7.

According to Coke Zero Colombia's promotion website (if our translation is correct), Coke Zero consumers from Bogotá, Villacicencio, Bucaramanga, Cúcuta, Medellín and Cali should mail in three labels of Coke Zero 250 ml bottles to enter to win a raffle for a trip for them and a friend to the concert. The raffle also includes eight Gibson electric guitars and amps as well as 150 Sony headphones. The raffle will be held on Nov. 19. The winner and his or her companion must be between 18 and 25 years old and be available for the Dec. 2 to Dec. 15 trip.

We hope "Trapped Under Ice" makes the setlist. What do you think of the news? Let us know in the comments section below!
