Plans for a new YouTube subscription service are in the works, according to Billboard. Although YouTube has not yet officially confirmed these plans, the Internet video giant has said it hopes to a release a product this year.

According to the article, the service would be very similar to Spotify, but for videos. Mobile listening key to the service, which will have a free component and a premium tier that offers unlimited access to a full catalogue of music. It will be similar to what YouTube's parent company Google Inc. is already doing with its All Access subscription service. Premium features would likely include the ability to save tracks for offline listening along with an ad-free experience.

The article explains that the free tier will include unlimted, on-demand access on all platforms. YouTube's primary goal won't necessarily be pushing the $10/month premium service but rather continue to garner viewers and listeners for mobile advertisements.

The paid-tier benefits the company by allowing more flexibility on what it can do with the music because of the required licenses to produce a premium on-demand product. The article also suggests that the service could pair well with future Google products such as Google Glass. The premium tier will likely go along with a large-scale redesign of the mobile app. YouTube has not yet announced when such a service will launch, but we will keep you updated with any further news.
