It was recently revealed that D'Angelo plans to release a new album called Black Messiah. He offered up a first-listen sharing of "Sugah Daddy" with his band The Vanguard.

D'Angelo decided to drop the album's first single on the eve of its release. As noted by Rap-Up, the horn-heavy track debuted as part of Red Bull's 20 Before 15 series and got its first live treatment during the singer's 2012 tour.
