How many artists does it take to make a hit record? Triple J attempted to find out by getting 40 of the top 100 artists on their top 100 records countdown to come together and make a hit song. Triple J breakfast hosts Matt and Alex enlisted 40 of the world's finest musicians to try and make this record from scratch and it didn't go so well. Even after gathering names like Lorde, Diplo, Skrillex, Flight Facilities, Flume, Ben Folds, Reggie Watts, Gotye, Kingswood, Alt-J, Disclosure, The Presets and of course Rick Astley into one room, the group of artists were unable to get anything going.

The humorous six-minute video features some classic musician attempts at acting and some awful attempts at writing a song. A variety of different ideas are thrown out there including sibling guitar verses, Ben Folds tickling the ivory and Skrillex mistakenly dropping the bass, to the delight of a few like Allison Wonderland and Steve Aoki who was readying his raft to ride over the other artists. The final straw for the tenuous collaboration comes when the two hosts won't let Rick Astley give up on them and after walking out, the rest of the artists still in the room, storm out in protest

Check out the full roster of artists who appear in the video below (via In The Mix) and head to Triple J's website to vote for your favorite song in the top 100.
