Eminem was notorious during his first years of fame, not only for baiting censors with obscene and offensive lyrics, but for his family history as well. Besides his issues with his wife Kim, his bad relationship with mother Debbie Mathers was also a frequent plot point. Now, the rapper will be burying the hatchet on The Marshall Mathers LP 2. The song "Headlights" spends a significant amount of time apologizing for his past actions.

Eminem raps: "I went in headfirst/Never thinking about who what I said hurt / In what verse / My mom probably got it the worst / The brunt of it, but as stubborn as we are / Did I take it too far? / 'Cleaning Out My Closet' and all them other songs / But regardless, I don't hate you 'cause ma / You're still beautiful to me, 'cause you're my mom."

"Cleaning Out My Closet" was a tarck off of the rapper's 2002 album The Eminem Show, during which Eminem laid into his mother more than he ever had, working her into the hook. He goes on to discuss how disappointed he is that the pair remain estranged and that his children don't get to see their grandmother.

In his words: "'Cause to this day we remain estranged and I hate it though/you ain't even get to witness your grand baby's grow / But I'm sorry mama for 'Cleaning Out My Closet,' at the time I was angry / Rightfully maybe so, never meant that far to take it though, 'cause / Now I know it's not your fault, and I'm not making jokes / That song I no longer play at shows and I cringe every time it's on the radio."

We're not sure one song is enough to patch up more than 15 years worth of animosity between the pair, but we hope it leads to something positive.
