Hans Zimmer didn't have anything to do with the soundtrack for The Avengers (that was Alan Silvestri) but he's assembled a super-group of his own for The Amazing Spider-man 2 soundtrack (and, for the record, we know that the two superhero tales are on different comic book labels).

Zimmer, one of the most prolific composers in Hollywood, has teamed with some of his former collaborators for the score. Check out who's involved and their qualifications:

Pharrell Williams

Sure, Williams is a performer the two biggest-selling singles of the year ("Blurred Lines" and "Get Lucky"), but he's tried his hand at film music as well. And sure, he's done films that cater to "urban" soundtracks, such as the Fast and The Furious series, but his most prominent work has featured in animated films, including Happy Feet and the title track to Despicable Me, another Zimmer film.

Johnny Marr

Marr, the guitarist for The Smiths, is well-known for the jangling style he brought to his most famous project. He's less well-known for the effect he brought to Inception, by providing the theme for Leonardo DiCaprio's character with his 12-string guitar. Try imagining the film without it. Again, another Zimmer project.

Dave Stewart

Stewart might be a less renowned guitarist than Marr, but he's done enough work as a television and music producer to make him qualified to work in soundtracks. He last worked with Zimmer for the soundtrack of Madagascar 3.

Michael Einziger

Einziger, the guitarist for Incubus, has also worked with Zimmer before, playing on the score for The Lone Ranger during 2012.

Marr, Stewart and Einziger will play together as a "supergroup" for the soundtrack. How the three guitarists will combine for one band we've yet to see, but we look forward to it.
