We deeply appreciate those members of society who take jobs that force them to show up for work on Christmas day: Police officers, firefighters, Waffle House employees. One 999 phone operator in the UK (999 is the UK equivalent to 911 in the United States) got a Christmas surprise when Nicki Minaj called in to report that she was struggling with poltergeists creating havoc in her home. This, alas is a true story and was not a prank, although of course the real Minaj was not the one behind the call.

NME reports that Steven Brown, a resident of Crumlin, was the culprit behind the calls although we can only imagine what was going on in his home/mind when it occurred. At around 10:25 on Christmas morning he made his first call to 999, claiming that two men were attempting to kill him, although he didn't provide any information as to who or why. Five minutes later he called the emergency line again to explain that his first call was a false alarm, but in reality he was the female rapper and that a poltergeist was loose in his home*.

The operator reported to the high court of Belfast that Brown was noticeably intoxicated during the calls, despite the early hour at which said calls were made, and Sky News reports that he had just been released from prison for "offences of a similar nature." Indeed, Brown had been banned from dialing the number by the court unless there was a true emergency...which is probably how the law works in the first place. He also reportedly suffers from alcoholism and he has also been banned from possessing or consuming the substance.

* = We don't need to tell you guys this, but Ray Parker Jr. would obviously suggest that you call Ghostbusters if this was the case.
