The Nile Project, an ensemble collecting musicians from all along the Nile River in Africa into one performance group, will come to the United States for a series of concerts and educational symposiums for the first half of 2015, according to World Music Central

The project isn't nearly as simple as it sounds. Even in the United States, if you take member of two wildly disparate genres and ask them to make music together, at least Western forms are so similar that some sort of middle ground can be reached. Egypt and Ethiopia, two nations most well represented within The Nile Project, might share a similar geographical distance as two American acts but between the two regions there are two completely different modal systems. The group gathered for an extended period before going on tour to learn each other's respective styles and form what we might bluntly describe as a "jam band" in the United States.

It should make for thrilling live music if you're into world music or experimental music in general. Check out the schedule of performance dates below and you can also look at The Nile Project's website for educational events as well.
