There's already been a load of discussion about who the "real" Lorde is. The teenager, who's found massive crossover success with hits such as "Royals" and "Tennis Court," has been accused of not being nearly as into her brand of pop/pop-hop/whatever as her songs let on. The truth about Lorde's musical background may be even more shocking than some expected. Brace yourself: The star is totally into heavy metal.

Video has emerged from around when Lorde was 12. She was one of several vocalists fronting a band called Extreme, and during said footage the group tackles a cover of Rainbow's "Man on The Silver Mountain." As Lorde points out during the song's introduction, Rainbow is guitarist Ritchie Blackmore's band. But we all know the more relevant and awesome truth: Ronnie James Dio was the band's vocalist.

Fans of both Lorde and Dio (and Lord knows we are) may be disappointed in the performance. For one thing, although Lorde (she introduces herself by legal name "Ella" later in the video) is clearly the front-woman for Extreme, another teenage vocalist seems to steal the spotlight. Neither, unfortunately, can hit the heavy metal highs made famous by Dio in songs such as "Rainbow in The Dark." We are, however, excited enough by the mere fact that a modern pop star is a Dio fan that this video still brought tears light to our eyes.

You can also fast forward to 7:58, where Lorde and company answer interview questions for a local broadcast. Especially humorous, being age 12, the three female band members tower over their male counterparts, who we estimate to be about 4'11" based on Lorde's current 5'5" height.
