Steven Tyler spoke last summer with Rolling Stone and discussed his upcoming solo album, in addition to the continuing touring success with Aerosmith.

Back in June he said:  "There's so much good stuff out there. I am a huge Skrillex fan. I went to lunch with Deadmau5 at Mel's Diner. He's got incredible ideas for his next tour - blew me away, what he's gonna do. I want to go out and explore things . . . I really want to take a little risk here and do something solo. There's no timeline - I'm gonna start in January and see where we get by March.

But now Tyler has hinted about working with producer mastermind Rick Rubin. On Saturday he he was at the Marquis for the hotel's 50th anniversary, a star-studded event that included a set from the cover band Bitch, featuring the Doors' Robby Krieger. While he was there he stopped to chat with RS and mentioned Rubin.

"I'm working on it," he said when asked about the coming solo project. "I just got back from Russia. Tour was over last week, so I set up my studio, and I had dinner with Rick Rubin last night."

Though there weren't any solid plans in place, it seemed, he did make it seem likely that Rubin would be a part of the album. "We did do 'Walk This Way' with Run-D.M.C.," he said. "That was his idea."

Tyler might take a slightly different approach for his record than what we normally hear from him. "We're going all them places, on the piano," he said. "I love the album by C2C. If you listen to that and the song 'Down the Road,' that's where I'm going — down that road."
