Did any famous musician step outside of their box in 2014 more than Paul McCartney? Besides an unlikely collaboration with Kanye West, Sir Paul also penned an original tune for a video game, Destiny. Now, that song — "Hope for the Future" — is getting released as a 12-inch vinyl single.

A download card will be included with the 180-gram vinyl, according to a report from Rolling Stone. McCartney had some serious things to say about the song and the game in a press release.

"When you're writing something like 'Hope for the Future,' which is custom made, it is like doing a portrait for someone," McCartney said. "You have to use your imagination and work out what they need, what they're going to want and then what you want to give them. Then you've got to combine those three things into something that you still think maintains integrity."

The 72-year-old also offered an explanation of the Destiny franchise, which debuted in 2014 and shipped more $500 million worth of games before its official release.

"So in the game you're basically trying to save Earth from the invaders, the aliens, so that suggested to me the 'hope for the future' idea and I went from there," McCartney added. "Then I thought it is not just a game song, this will get played outside the game so it has got to be stand-alone too, you can't have references to aliens or people will think, 'What's he talking about?' So it had to have its own stand-alone meaning and integrity."

Don't worry about it too much, Paul. As you can see below, the release contains five version of "Hope for the Future," including one created by Madonna producer Mirwais.
