The Grateful Dead may have formally disbanded in 1995, but the band's fans are still as passionate as ever. Fortunately, despite the fold, those fans have been able to get theirs via RatDog, the side project begun by Dead guitarist Bob Weir. Now, after a three-year hiatus, RatDog are hitting the road again, so Deadheads won't have to settle for some touring cover band anymore.

RatDog does have so original music, but is more well known for their playing of the Grateful Dead repertoire, as well as covering classics from other acts. Weir had also toured with Furthur, another offshoot established by former Dead members, but had to pull out of a tour with that group earlier this year after a fall onstage.

It's possible that next year's tour will coincide with the release of a new live album being released next year, Fall 1989: The Long Island Sound. The album will feature six discs, compiling two complete shows that Weir, bassist Rob Wasserman and The Jerry Garcia Band played at the Hartford Civic Center and Nassau Coliseum during 1989.
