The Voice alums Elenowen have been working on new album For The Taking for most of the past year, utilizing Kickstarter to raise funds while drawing up their first couple years in the music business for inspiration.

After their appearance on The Voice in 2011, the couple — Josh and Nicole Johnson — dropped an album and an EP. The first single on the new album, "Half a Mile," was released in November. The Johnsons recently explained the lyrical content to Taste of Country.

"It was this season of us living in this small basement apartment that we had been in for five-and-a-half years, and so many things in our lives just felt the essence of being trapped — physically, emotionally," Nicole said. "We wanted to buy a house, we wanted to start our family; we just wanted to do all these things that we just felt like we couldn't, for logical purposes."

While life after TV was much different, they decided to just go ahead and do what they felt was their calling.

"We kinda ended up taking things into our own hands, got pregnant and bought a house, and made a decision just to start living more the life we really wanted, even though some things weren't gonna make sense and were gonna be hard," Nicole said. "So when we went to name the record and that song was on there, it seems to really capture that."

Jeremy Bose and Trent Dabbs helped produce the record, which will feature a full band behind the Johnsons.

"In between recording sessions, we were on the road playing the songs live, and they ended up taking a completely different form when we tracked with the musicians and got in the room with Jeremy and Trent," Josh said.
