While there are certain politicians who have not been trying very hard to put themselves in Jay Z's good graces, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is doing a great job of it thanks to his newly announced criminal justice reform package, which is part of a larger state overhaul proposal that also includes widespread changes to public schools.

Cuomo has a seven-point agenda related to criminal justice, according to The New York Times. It includes more transparency in grand jury decisions and the appointment of an independent monitor when civilians clash with police.

Here are Hova's thoughts on the matter (via Pitchfork):

The criminal justice reform package proposed by Governor Cuomo today is a huge step forward in restoring fairness, protection, sensitivity and accountability for all under our justice system. I commend Governor Cuomo for his bold leadership in taking this issue head on at this critical time. This package presents comprehensive steps to protect and improve relations amongst all citizens. We cannot be divided, as every single human being matters. Together, we can move forward as a community, with mutual respect for each other and continue to make this great state stronger than ever before.

Cuomo's plan also includes plenty of expensive new gadgets including bulletproof vests, bulletproof patrol car windows and body cameras. The proposal is still not enough for some, though.

"Real police accountability is still so painfully lacking," said Priscilla Gonzalez, organizing director of Communities United for Police Reform. "Cuomo must do more to help our communities achieve it."

Then there are the dissenters on the law enforcement side.

"I reject the concept that those tools be horse-traded for criminal justice reforms designed to disrupt the due process rights of law enforcement," said Michael J. Palladino, president of the Detectives' Endowment Association.

Cuomo at least as Jay Z on his side. How much more do you need in New York?
